The Electoral register for Withernwick in 1868

There had been acts of parliment in 1834 and 1867 which addressed the ability to vote but even by this time only men aged over
21 who owned property could vote.

We do know something about some of the above men.

David Coultred was the village blacksmith
John and William Croft live at Westlands Farm on Whitedale Road
John Oman was the miller
Rev John Crockett was vicar of Withernwick (his job may have given him the right to vote)
Robert Taylor lived at Withernwick Hall
Henry Wallis was the in keeper of the Old Gate pub on High Street.

There is a copy of the electoral register in 1834 - click here to compare the two (it will open in a new window).
