St Alban's Church - Roof Replacement Jan - June 2018

St Alban's Church has been repaired or partly rebuilt many times over its nearly 1000 year history. The existing roof dated from the 1860's when the church was largely rebuilt.
So it had lasted about 150 years which isn't bad, indeed many of the original tiles
would be recycled in the new roof.

The work started in the bleakness of January, it couldn't have been very pleasant for workmen
on such an exposed place, but they mafe very good progress.

Work was finished by the end of May at a cost of over £200000, probably more in total
than that spent on it in the prvious 1000 years!
But the new roof looks fine and it should hopefully be around for at least another 150 years.

The first two photos show the roof as it was, the rest are in chronological order.

The first real sign of progress was the replacement of the beautifully restored weather cock.
