The Windfarm and the Gas Caverns

Return to Home page

The point of this page is to keep you up to speed with the two major projects around Withernwick that will begin in the near future and will no doubt have a significant affect on our lives. As yet no work has begun, but the most disruption will be caused during the construction period; so I hope you will all help keeping this page up to date with news and photographs (just send them to me via the contact us page).

On the page to begin with are various documents concerning proposals and planning applications (in pdf format).

The Windfarm

The above photograph shows a view from Alborough Road with the proposed wind turbines superimposed. They will be less visable from most parts of the village, but some people will get a grandstand view such as this. We are going to have to learn to live with them, will it be any consolation to think that Withernwick is doing its bit for the planet?
I guess we all know the story: East Riding refused the application but it was subsequently railroaded through by the Government on appeal. You can read all the appropriate documents for yourself if you wish by clicking on the links below.

Latest New - 31st Nov 2011 (From Parish Council Meeting)

The Managing Director of Energiekontor Mr Peter Harrison, together with colleague Mr Richard Hind, attended the meeting and updated the Council on the current situation.

The Council noted that the start date is likely to be in the spring of 2012 and that a constitution document would need to be submitted to ERYC before Christmas. Mr Harrison agreed to send copies of the Section 106 agreement and the Lissett constitution document so that the Council can comment thereon. Mr Harrison also agreed to send details of the route planned for contractors and agreed with the Council in wishing to arrange a ringfenced community fund to ensure funds are used locally. He also agreed to consider an advance payment from the fund for the church steps subject to an estimate being provided.

It was also agreed that Mr Harrison would attend the January 2012 meeting to further update the Council.

The Gas Caverns

The above photograph shows the kind of tipper trucks that we will see plenty of during the construction of the gas caverns.  The lorries will avoid the centre of the village using a temporary haul road built between High Steet and Cowden Lane. No doubt we will hear and see them which we will have to learn to live with. When completed the gas cavern site will have little impact on the village.

There is now a dedicated page on the E-ON website for the Whitehill Gas Storage facility with news and updates on the project - click here.

There is presently a delay due to a technicality with the planning application. We will let you know as soon as there is any progress.
