Ellen was born in Withernwick in 1792 the daughter of William and Sarah Oman
It is likely that this is the family that ran the village windmill (click here).
She was married to Anthony Bowes (born in Hull is 1789) in St Alban's Church in the village.
Some time soon after 1820 they took the momentous decision to emigrate to Canada.
They ended up in Thorhill Ontario (which probably looked as it did in the above photo).
They had child Anthony (probably named after his (father) in 1835.
Anthony senior died in 1951 at the good age of 81. Ellen died in 1835 (probably in childbirth) at the relatively young age of 43.
