David Smith (d July 2018)

David was born in Hull and was a seafarer for all of his working life.
After attending Trinity House School in Hull, he joined the merchant navy as a cadet.
He worked his way through the ranks and eventually reached the rank of captain.
He married Valerie and with son Timothy amd daughter Caroline, they moved to Withernwick in March 1977 (they lived in Mill Lane).
They soon became involved in village life, David, of course, was still away at sea at this time, for many weeks at a time.
He became a Church Warden of St Alban's church, a post which he held for 35 years.
Perhaps his proudest mement came in April 2012 when he was chosen to be a recipient of Maundy Money from the Queen in York Minster,
Well known throughout the Benefice of York and the Deanery, David was a friend to all.
In the village, those in need knew they could always turn to David for hospital visits or doctors appointments etc.
For quite a few years he ferried Darby and Jaon members to and from meetings.
David really loved people and we will all miss the warm welcome he always gave.
He was one of the kindest men you could ever wish to meet and our world is poorer for his passing.
Now anchored safely on the heavenly shore.
