It is with sadness that we have to report the passing of another
wonderful village character - Arthur Young.
He lived to the ripe old age of 92 and remained active until very near the
end.
He was born off Hessle Road in Hull the son of a dock worker.
He was evacuated to Lincolnshire during the war.
He became a builder and moved to Witherwick when he built his own house on
High Street in the 1970's, he lived here until his death,
He built several other houses in the village including the ones either
side of his own and three others in Church Lane.
He was a well known character in the village and a very regular visitor to
The Falcon.
He was married to Irene for many years and they had two sons. A few years
after she died he formed a very loving relationship with Margaret (in the
photo above)
He was a keen (in his own words) and skilful bowler, so he was also well
knonw in Hornsea.
