Main Street in the Early 20th Century

Main Street Withernwick looking towards The Falcon c1910
With the Forrester's Hall on the left.
The terrace just beyond Forrester's Hall is now known as Lynton Terrace, in 1911 it was called Club Row.
In 1911 a family called Etherington lived in 'Forrester's', this could have been the hall or the first cottage - click here to see census details.
The view has actually changed very little, the biggest change has been the removal of the building in the centre of the view, at right angles to the street.
The photo is from a postcard dated 1917, but the photo will most lilely have been taken a few years earlier.

A close up of the above photo showing the people (who we will probably never identify) and the Falcon
The Wesleyan Chapel has not yet been rebuilt (it records it has 1914 on the building itself)

A similar view of Main Street about the same time, showing the cottages nearer what was to be the village hall.
