The footpath from High Street to Aldbrough Road is apparently know as
the Bauk or Boke. Nobody is sure of the spelling since it was only ever
called this name verbally. In general, a bauk is an unploughed edge of a
field, and that makes sense here as that's probably what this footpath was
before the more modern houses were built. It has been an important route,
older members of the village who lived at North End would have used it to
walk to school having previously walked through the grounds of Withernwick
Hall and up Butcher's Lane.
