Tom Kearry Tom Kearry (not Kerry as in the cutting) celebrating long service working for the Royal Mail. I'm sure he would not be allowed to work until he was aged 76 nowadays. The cutting dates from 1939, the year the Second World War started. There are quite a few other photos of Tom on the website as a younger man. He was obviously a strong community minded man as he was the secretary of the Withernwick Forresters - click here. There is another photo of him outside the shop in Church Lane where his wife Maud and daughter Christiana obviously worked - click here. The best photo of him is at the wedding of his daughter Christiana in 1914 - click here. He obviously became a postman in later life in the 1901 and 1911 censuses he is listed as a market gardener - click here. Click here to see a family tree of the Kearry's. So Tom obvious led a full and active life. For a further description of his life by his grand-daughter - click here. The photo is obviously a staged one as he is posting a letter in the letter box of his own house - Rose Cottage on Aldbrough Road - click here. Return to Gallery |
